The Fête
Datchworth held its annual Village fête on 14th June
2008.
It's a traditional village activity drawing the
community together and raising money for village charities. Organized
and run by local people, it includes games, events,
entertainments and stalls, and profits go to
local
charities.
The weather was fine, despite forecasts, and hundreds
came along and had a great time.
The total taking on the day came to over £11500
and the
details are below.
The Fête
Committee would like to extend a hearty
thank-you to all the stallholders who gave their time and enthusiasm to
make the day such a success.
How it's organized
It's
organized by Datchworth Village Fête
Committee, an ad-hoc
group of local volunteers who, together with other helpers
contribute about 1000 man-hours to planning and running each Fête.
It's
non profit-making, and the committee is neither
a commercial
enterprise nor a registered charity. Its funds are held at
Barclays Bank. The would-be profits are paid to local charities, mainly
All Saints' Church and Datchworth Village Hall.
We're seriously under-manned and seek the time,
energy and enthusiasm of local people for this surprisingly rewarding
activity. Becoming involved, either on the Committee or as a
helper is an excellent way of making new friends.
Without such
help there would be no fête.
